I had monthly periods for 17 years until January 2006 when I got pregnant. Now a year and a half later I’m enjoying the break that Mother Nature has given me as my reward for breastfeeding!
I’ve been reading up on it and it seems the average return of menstruation is about 14 months postpartum, some experience it as early as six weeks, others could go for 2 years. Myself, I’m at almost 9 months and it’s on my mind as I could sometimes swear I feel my body getting ready to restart the cycle. According to Kellymom.com, your body can start gradually ramping up to full fertility over a few months.
Extended breastfeeding is associated with natural child spacing, as detailed on LLL’s site. We’ve chosen not to trust to this method as I wish to nurse babypixie for at least a year, hopefully two. My body has done such an excellent job of growing, birthing and now feeding babypixie that I think it deserves a little rest once she has finished nursing, whenever that may be! Then we can start all over again and hopefully start a new break in my cycle! However if things don’t go according to plan (and they rarely do) then I guess I’ll be spending a lot of time on Kellymom’s nursing during pregnancy & tandem nursing pages!
So, for when the day does arrive when I need such things again, I’m determined to explore more eco-friendly options. It’s amazing how having a baby makes you rethink your definition of what’s “gross” and what’s just natural…
Apconnect have a tried & tested list of many types of cloth sanitary towels, which is very informative.

This is great! I bled again after birthing Zoe about two months afterward. It was troubling, because I thought it would be longer, but the Goddess had other ideas. Now we are pregnant again, still nursing (for 20 months!) and looking forward to tandem nursing.
Good job Mama!
Although I exclusively breastfed, mine returned at 7 weeks. I was shocked
For 6 weeks I had the post partum bleeding and one week later this turned up!
Oh Isil, that’s not fair
Although handy if you wanted a few lovely babies close together! I’m at 9 1/2 months post partum and getting curious when they’ll return…
