Littlepixie is signing “Elephant” now as well as “milkies”. I know it seems random, but there is an elephant mother and baby in “Mama, Mama” and I can’t make a good elephant noise, so I did the sign, I’m sure you can imagine it, you make a trunk with your hand. It’s very funny. She also has one sign she made up herself, a hand waggle which signifies “Bored”, it’s quite useful
Random elephant factoid:
Young elephants are started on the process of weaning in their first year of life and may continue to be weaned until their tenth year, or until another sibling is born.
This prolonged dependency period is vital to the elephant.
Of course, you can’t mention elephants without thinking of the cruel and heartless ways these noble creatures are treated in circuses around the world.
Visit Peta’s Circuses.com for more information on how you can help save these elephants.

I love the elephant sign. Btw,I had been meaning to write about this to you. After you had written about these books, Mama Mama and Papa Papa, we had bought them. They are absolutely beautiful and Defne loves them. Thank you!
Oh splendid Isil, it is a really cute book, I’m glad Defne enjoys it. We’ve been giving it as baby presents this Christmas. I have no idea what noises koalas, pandas or seahorses make so I must look up more signs
Littlepixie has taken it upon herself to forcefully remove the covers from her copy, it looks well-loved!
Isn’t signing fun! We’ve been showing DS signs since he was about 7 months old. Now at nearly 14 months, he clearly recognizes at least 30-40 signs, but to date only signs 3 American Sign Language (more, hat & eat) and 1 InannaSon (open or out). I go absolutely ga-ga every time he signs. It’s so exciting! Mama Mama looks like a fun book. We’ll have to check it out. I am so ready for him so sign “nurse” rather than pulling on my shirt collar.
