I was trying to think of an excuse to show off my newish (Christmas present) toddler Tettitett. Yes I know I also have a Taitasi. What can I say, I am naughty and indecisive but, in my defense, both were gifts
So, back to my excuse, I wanted to show you all my beautiful Tettitett, which has brown cord straps, a dark purple cord body with flowers, a sleeping hood, and reverses to purple cotton.
Enough about the Tettitett, I thought of an excuse. I will show you in pictures how I fold my Mei Tai carriers. I found this a few months ago on Magic City Slingers Blog, and was amazed, so simple. So much better than the “Bunch up in a pile” technique I previously employed. Mine is basically the same technique as theirs, only I find the little hood ties ideal for tying the whole thing together at the end and therefore all the straps can stay snug inside the bundle.
So here it is (please feel free to admire the Tettitett while learning!)
1) Lay MT out on the floor/table. I put the hood side down as I want it on the outside when rolled later. Go off and get camera. Come back and remove small child. Return to MT & straighten out. Remove small child again & repeat straightening.

2) With small child removed, fold MT body in half lengthways with waist strap overlapping waist strap and shoulder strap overlapping shoulder strap. Accordian-fold the waist straps onto the body. Repeat with the shoulder straps, until it looks like this.

3) Starting from the top, roll the body until you have a neat bundle. Secure with the little hood straps. Presto, all neat & tidy.

Obviously if you’re out and about then the easiest technique is bundle & squish into a tote bag. It is nice when you get home to take the time to give the hard working mei tai some love and fold it properly though

I have a kozy carrier which was great when littlepixie was smaller. I’m using the Tett & taitasi now which are both toddler sized and really comfy, quite weightless! I’ve heard good things about the baby & toddler hawks though
I sooooo want a mei tai – I have a pouch sling that I absolutely love and adore, but a mei tai would allow me the versatility to carry Brookie on my back. Maybe if I beg and plead with hubby he’ll let me get one? Which one do you like the best? Have you ever tried a BabyHawk?
I absolutely love our Mei Tai as well. I use the bundle and squish method of getting it from point A to point B.
I love that!
It looks lovely and how lucky you are to receive 2 baby wearing gifts for Christmas
Very nice Mei Tais!
I use a variation of that fold up technique. But i fold it all around the waist straps and then those are tied around to keep it all together. I’ll have to take a pic!
There’s far too much enabling going on in the babywearing community! I only get my hands on one object of desire and something else takes my fancy! Your tett is gorgeous, they’re all lovely but, not for me, tried one at a slingmeet and didn’t feel comfy at all. I love my Babyhawks, they’re fab for just shoving in your bag. I also have a Kozy but, find the BH more supportive. I fear I may have to set up Carrierholics Anonymous meetings soon!
hi. you have EVERY RIGHT to show that beauty off! and i LOVE the fact that you honor its beauty by folding it beautifully. i first saw the folded MT on oliviabolivia’s custom scandi mei tai site.
as a matter of fact, i’m going to try to make my own scandi MT based on her instructions. *crossing fingers*
