We got a push mower, yay! Our landlord left us a horrible petrol guzzling, noisy monster of a lawnmower in the shed and I’d say we only mowed the lawn twice all last year, it scared poor littlepixie so much, even when she was indoors, and the fumes were rotten.
So we got a push mower! It’s lovely, it’s lightweight, it’s quiet and it doesn’t smell of petrol. And it gives you a good workout!
Today marked the assembly day and its inaugural flight mow. A very slow process as we were cutting all the new Spring growth, but a little break for tea and veggie sausages with mustard and ketchup and we were ready to keep going!
Littlepixie woke from her nap and played outside on her tricycle with Mr. HPP while I took my turn tackling the front lawn. She didn’t mind the noise at all, it’s a very pleasant noise, reminds me of when I was young, before everyone got those fumey noise belchers!
We even had a Disney moment, as a little robin flew down and pottered around beside me as I mowed. All we needed was a small deer and some rabbits and it would have been perfect
Seriously though, push mowers rock! My arms hurt though, we will take it out every week now for a quick run around as it’s not too fond of huge grass!

I love pushmowers!! They ARE a great workout and best of all, LittlePixie will be able to push it in no time…
We have one of those and two of the gas guzzling kind. We bought the pushmower because we were always having so many issues with the others. It’s so cute! When we first put it together my 4 year old asked “how do you turn it on?”. So we pushed it around and showed her
good for you!how I love the smell of newly cut grass.
We love our reel mower, they are the best and you are so right about the workout! When I was pregnant with number two, it was great to be able to do the lawn and not worry about fumes (I’ve never actually used a gas mower and I’d like to keep it that way). Then when number 2 arrived I could do the lawn with him in the carrier sleeping and not worry about noise. Now number one and number two fight over who gets to do the lawn and I don’t get the workout anymore, but number three gets to nurse on the porch while we watch.
Excellent choice!
Not only are gas guzzling mowers loud and annoying, they contribute to about 5% of north American air pollution. It’s pretty sad really.
You’ve made a decision that DRASTICALLY reduces your carbon footprint, which is great!
I’ve listed several facts from EPA about just how bad lawn care pollutes the environment. Have a look if you’d like at:

again, excellent choice!
