Steph over at Adventures in Babywearing is hosting a little mini-carnival to let everyone share their slings! Littlepixie is getting heavy and prefers to run around now so I don’t use mine as much as I used to but here is a peek at them… each is well-loved and has served us well!
The first sling I got was a Storch Anna wrap, it’s very bright and rainbowy. Littlepixie used to love to snuggle in this from about 2 months of age, I remember her sleeping in it the day of her naming ceremony. Wraps have a fairly steep learning curve but there are a good few videos on YouTube which make it all a lot easier!
Then the sling addiction started to grow, and I got a Kozy Mei Tai in black and navy-blue paisley. I carried littlepixie in this when we moved from Dublin to Galway. She enjoyed being up and about in the train station and was the centre of attention.
We mostly used the Kozy for front carries and YouTube was a great source of instructional videos!
The Kozy was retired a good few months ago as Littlepixie got bigger in favour of my new toddler-sized Scandinavian Mei-Tais, but more on them soon…
A Rockin’ Baby Ring Sling rounded out my collection, this is still in use for hip carries almost every day. It’s hot pink and flowery, very bright and happy looking! It’s been to London, on the Tube, in Heathrow, all over Dublin and Galway and over to the local playground many times.
It has two handy pockets which can carry a travelling dolly, very useful!
A while later, curiosity prompted me to get an SSC (Soft Structured Carrier), a Close2U, which was gorgeous, I used to carry Littlepixie on my back in it while I cooked. It was a beautiful brown and pink paisley pattern. But I decided that buckles were not my cup of tea so it was sent on its merry way to another magicmum ( we have a buy & sell thread like a mini version of thebabywearer.com
)
And then then I read about Scandanavian Mei-Tais, specifically the unparalleled comfort of the toddler-sized ones!
Mr. HPP gave me an early Christmas present of one of the most comfortable Mei-Tais I have ever worn. A sunflower covered brown Taitasi with brown corduroy straps. Guaranteed to brighten up the winter days!
It is toddler sized, so a longer, wider body, with a sleeping hood and the wide cord straps make carrying heavier toddlers a breeze. Myself and Mr. HPP carried Littlepixie all over Dublin in this during our pre-Christmas holiday, she loved both back and front carries in it and was wonderfully snuggly in the bitter cold.
January brought a second treat, a custom toddler Tettitett, also from Norway, delayed in the post!
Purpley/wine flowery corduroy body which reverses to purple cotton, brown cord straps, a sleeping hood and a general air of gorgeousness. What more can I say, it’s beautiful and very comfy. Here’s how to fold Mei Tais nicely!
So there you have it, that’s my sling collection. One has moved on (the SSC), one is in storage waiting for the next bundle of joy (the Kozy), one is hanging around being generally rainbowy (the wrap) , one is in daily use (the ringsling) and two are waiting for Littlepixie to start enjoying piggy back rides (the toddler MTs).
Pop over to Adventures in Babywearing and see what slings everyone else enjoys! And feel free to share, what are your favourite slings?
