It’s Monday morning and it’s time for the Blog Carnival. It’s my first time hosting one, so let’s hope everyone has a good time. The theme is “A day in the life of YOU” and we’re all going to share a regular, boring or not-so-boring day in our lives so we can all get a glimpse into the lives of other mums & dads!
I’ll be adding links to all the other participating blogs at the end of this post as the day goes on so be sure to check back.
If you’re just reading about this for the first time, you can still join in, just leave your blog address in the comments and I’ll add it to the list!
So to start, here’s mine… It’s long, grab a cup of tea

A day in the life of ….. Half Pint Pixie
On Wednesday evening I nominated Thursday as my “day in the life” day. My logic was that I wouldn’t be able to write about my day on Monday seen as I’m starting the carnival on Monday morning. Aaah… so clever, hmmmm…
Thursday started at 5am!!! Bleuch. Well actually 4:30 am, but I lay in bed nursing Littlepixie with my eyes firmly shut pretending to be asleep. It didn’t work, she climbed out of the bed, walked to the door and started asking to go “down”. Bleuch again. I got up. Toyed with the idea of un-nominating Thursday as my “day in the life” day but decided to keep it as a bog standard day is what we want, and a bone tired HPP is fairly standard around here!
It’s 5:30 am, and I’m absolutely starving and still have my blasted week-long headache that a simple 1 night’s sleep would cure, but complaints aside, I stumble along, I pop on an episode of Boogie Beebies for herself and make a strong cup of tea with toast & rice krispies. LP also has rice krispies, I know, I know, but it was very early in the morning, I would have let her eat her welly boot if she’d asked!
And then at 6:30 she has more milkies and goes back to sleep in my arms while I blankly rock back and forth in the rocking chair, at 7 I get to go back up to bed for a whole 1.5 hours, then back up, shower, wave bye-bye to dada and begin the day (again).
Begin it with more milkies that is. I should add that yesterday I got an extremely rare glance into LP’s mouth, and lo and behold, she has just cut 4 molars, 1 on each side, top & bottom. This probably explains the constant milkies and the early wakings!
Plan for today: Laundry, trek to supermarket, bank, post office, horses, ducks, playground, lunch, play out the back, farmer’s market, more laundry (weather permitting), dinner, spontaneous fun (tiredness permitting), bed (ahhhh sleep!).
Ok, it’s now 12:38 and we have successfully completed some tasks, the laundry was put on, we mounted up the buggy, LP, her dolly and some emergency biscuits and headed off around 10:00.The sky was a mixture of bright blue and ominous dark grey. I also brought Mr. HPP’s Zolowear sling & our bubble umbrella as LP is going through a phase of not liking the raincover on the buggy, so when it rains I pop her in the sling & use the brolly. Back to today…
I finally got around to posting off my bras for the Charity Bra Chain, I’ve been trying to find my cheque book for the last few weeks, well “trying” is a complete exaggeration, I’ve been hoping it will mysteriously appear in front of me, but it hasn’t. So today while I had to go to the bank anyway, I figured I’d get a bank draft to make my little donation, so I did, and because it was for charity the bank kindly waived the bank draft fee. Cool. Bank, done.
Then the supermarket for some Cocodirect Hot Chocolate powder. I love my nightly Hot Chocolates! Luckily our supermarket stocks it, but it’s a 1/2 hour walk away. But we made it, and on the way stopped to look at horses, cows, swans and giant cranes (the building site ones, not the birds). supermarket, horses, bonus swans, cows & cranes but no ducks.
Post Office, got there and found that I had run out of sellotape to close my parcel (with the newly minted bank draft inside) so discovered a book shop above the supermarket, excellent. Bought sellotape and a cute little book for LP. Back to Post Office (got to play in the lift!) and posted parcel & chucked a load of redirected mail for the previous tenants into the post box too. Got me thinking, myself & Mr. HPP have lived at many, many addresses over the years, I wonder occasionally does mail arrive for us there? You know a catalogue you forgot to change address with or some random post that is a complete waste of paper. Wierd. post office.
And, back home we go, quick layover in the playground, but LP is getting tired. Her teeth are at her and she keeps asking for “dry” her very apt name for rice cakes, and chewing them until they get soft then chucking them away. Back in the buggy and off home, cue shouts of “dere’s housie” as we approach. Playground.
And now, LP is asleep in my arms, I’m going to bring her up to the bed so I can make lunch for myself. She’s just had various rice products so far today, won’t touch anything else. And of course, plenty of milkies, so that’s ok! Back later!
Woo hoo, 13:45 and LP is asleep on the bed upstairs, I had to feed her twice more and eventually wriggle out of my shirt which she had snuggled into but I managed to get downstairs again! Lunching now, not very hungry so I’m just having a big bowl of porridge (for my milk supply, I like to have porridge when I haven’t slept much), with banana, hemp seeds & dried apricots, some toast and just to completely inhibit all the absorption of all that goodness, a big cup of tea! With some fake smarties too. Yum! I think I’ll make a tofu & veg stirfry tonight, LP will probably eat the tofu, she loves it! Lunch.
Later on, oh I’m never happy with the weather, it’s too hot now
We’ve had to come back inside as we’ll burn if we stay out any longer and LP has gotten bored of wearing her hat. Going to put off going to the farmer’s market until after 4, might be a little cooler then. Still though, I have 2 lines full of washing drying & got some hand washing done while LP played in the sandpit, hurrah! We’re both drinking heaps of water today! Laundry.
Inside now, watching Tigger & Pooh for a few minutes and LP has devoured 1/2 an avocado and a tub of pureed pineapple & pear (it’s really yummy, we call it juice & she drinks it through a straw!). Back outside for a while, still too hot, back inside again, I got a friendly headbutt and almost chipped a tooth, thanks LP! Ugh, putting on suncream now to go to the market, really neeeeed potatoes you see. Not putting suncream on LP, but putting her in the buggy with the sun parasol and hat (please wear your hat missus).
Made it to the market, but everything was closing (oops), just about managed to get some lettuce, potatoes, avocados, cucumber (for LP’s teeth) and one single solitary tomato. That’ll learn me to get there early next week. Oh managed to snag a special treat of fancy white round bread. I may have given LP some not-so-healthy biscuits while we were out walking, or I may not have, I’m not telling. Farmer’s Market.
Met Mr. HPP cycling home and now he’s out the back with LP, while I cook the traditional HPP hot weather meal of oven chips, fried tofu and chilli & garlic stirfried pak choi served with non-alcoholic Cobra beer, yummmmm….
Back again, lovely dinner, LP has been munching on chilled cucumber strips to help her teeth. And then spitting them out all over the floor. She had a smidgeen of tofu too and lots of milkies. Ah well! Dinner.
Mr. HPP is teaching her how to slide down the slide in a towel, I prefer not to watch! Over the next hour or so, we’re in the garden, back in the house, back in the garden, all the washing has been taken in and all the various random garden furniture tidied up. The kitchen is a huge mess! We settle in and watch some TinTin (a favourite of Mr. HPP) and get LP ready for bed. No bath tonight, LP doesn’t get nightly baths as they dry her skin too much.
8:30pm sees us all in our pj’s, teeth washed, sitting on the family bed watching LP practicing her body flops. Lights off and we whisper-chat while LP nurses to sleep, then we gradually move out of the room, takes a while to disentangle her from me every night! Bed
By 9:30pm Mr. HPP is downstairs giving the kitchen a quick clean and putting on the dishwasher. I think he is now catching up on Zelda on the Wii. I’m in the other bedroom catching up on this blog post. I’m going back to bed soon though, I am absolutely exhausted!
So that’s a fairly standard day in the HPP household, how was yours?

Okay. It’s up and I’m off to bed… early, just in case.
Yes! Thank you HPP and all the cool mamas who shared their days with us! I haven’t posted comments on everyone’s site, but wanted to let you all know that you’re an amazing group of women!!
And congrats to LP on her new molars! May sleep be yours soon, HPP!!
Oh that took me quite some time. I didn’t think of doing a different day. That was very sensible!

Lily also cut a molar last night – the reason for her frequent feeding and overnight fever. I can only hope that the other 3 aren’t quite so bad for her.

Gah! I forgot to do this! I even used my voice recorder last week taking notes of the day. Well, I’ll probably put it up in the next week or so anyway. Better late than never, right?
No worries Al, I look forward to reading it anyway! Tell you what, once you publish your day, I’ll add your link in here for posterity. We have to see what dads do too!
