Just a few days left to post your old bras off!

30 October, 2008 by halfpintpixie

Remember this post a few months ago about the upcoming record breaking attempt for the world’s longest bra chain?

Well, it’s almost time for the Rock Chicks to start assembling their bra chain, you can follow their progress at irishbrachainforcancer.com. Their aim to raise awareness and much-needed funds for Cancer Care West & the Mayo Cancer Support Association.

Both of these charities do fantastic work helping both cancer patients and their families, but they are woefully underfunded.

They rely almost entirely on voluntary contributions to stay afloat, so hopefully the publicity surrounding this bra chain will help raise awareness of their work (and some cash!).

The final day for receipt of donated bras is November 7th, so if you rummage through your closet, pop a few old bras (and a little donation) in an envelope and run to the post office over the next few days, your old bra might make it into the Guinness Book of Records!

If you’re in Ireland, they have drop locations all over the country, they also have contact details in the UK & US (scroll to the bottom of the drop location page). And of course, you can post your bra to them from wherever you are in the world to either

Cancer Care West,
University College Hospital Galway,
Galway, Ireland
or
Mayo Cancer Support Centre,
Rock Rose House,
32 St. Patricks Avenue,
Castlebar, Co. Mayo, Ireland

So go on, you know you want to donate your old bras, it’s almost Christmas, so what better excuse to buy yourself lots of lovely new lingerie as a treat!

I wonder if mine would still make it. If I sent tomorrow . . .

What a wonderful, symbolic idea! I shall send mine on Monday, I hope my parcel will make it on time.

The event itself is taking place on November 22nd, so even though the cut off date is next Friday, there’s still a few weeks to go. The cut off date is so as we can count the bras and get clipping them as 120,000 bras will take some clipping! Thanks for all your support in making this happen

Yay bex & Irene! And good luck assembling the chain Louise :)

Thanks Halfpintpixie for all your support and help in promoting this challenge. The bras are being clipped like there’s no tomorrow so I’m sure when we have the ‘blister ball’ on Saturday night after the bra chain on the mountain, it’ll be celebrating the blisters on the fingers as much as on the toes! It’s been a great experience and best of all the results have well been seen at Rock Rose House with the place buzzing with people and these are people availing of the services, which it’s all about. If we never succeeded in getting bras and money, we have succeeded in more important ways. Thainks again

Brilliant Louise! Hope you all have fun clipping & getting blisters :) Looking forward to seeing how many bras you’ve collected!
