NaBloPoMo 2008 – Day 9
Ok, off we go on our latest crafting adventure, felt food for Littlepixie’s upcoming kitchen. Do I have everything I need? I think so!
- Felt squares in a gazillion colours …

- Pattern ebook from etsy (I need some help to get started!) …

- Very basic cutting and sewing skills …

- Enthusiasticness and readiness to learn …

I’ll start with the fruits in my pattern ebook, so I can get a feel for what I’m doing and then I’ll go wild. I’ve had a search on the interwebs and MDC and found some great ideas, there are so many amazing felt play food sets available on etsy if you are in the mood for buying rather than sewing. But I’m in the mood for sewing!
So, on the menu are (skills permitting of course)…
- Random fruits, vegetables & salad leaves

- Sandwiches & pitta pockets

- Pizza, in slices with a base, a tomato sauce layer, a spinach layer, a hummus layer (well it is for LP after all!) and removable bits such as mushrooms, sweetcorn, sliced peppers

Tutorials: donut, cupcake, fortune cookies (video), cake-slice, Oreo cookie
- Sushi, fish-free of course

Overconfident? me? Nah! Aim for the stars!
I should mention that I don’t own a sewing machine so we’ll see how I manage with just my little hands. My sewing is reasonably abominable but I’m sure it’ll improve (fingers crossed).
The plan is to fill this lovely market basket with lots of delicious looking goodies for Christmas morning so Littlepixie will have some play food for her new wooden kitchen (whenever I decide on one!). So far, there is one happy little watermelon slice (from the ebook) sitting in the basket waiting for some friends to join it! Isn’t it sweet?
For more fun felt food, have a look at this flickr pool and all these beautiful pattern ebooks here and here on etsy. Hopefully this will be a fun way to fill my (incredibly scarce) free time! If I’m any good at it, and LP enjoys my creations, then I might ask Santa for this splendid Japanese book.
And, yes, I’ll be using polyester ecospun felt, I know, I can hear the sharp indrawn breaths from all the felted wool lovers out there, but we don’t use wool in this house. On the plus side the colours are very funky and it’s made from recycled plastic.

I die for felt foods! We don’t have a single piece, but I drool over them and all the excellent resources you’ve put together to create them. Ecospun felt! Brilliant. I think it’s time to share them with M’s Nana
Thanks for the info. I just started knitting and assumed I’d never be able to do anything felted because of the wool. I have a skein of that ecospun and I love it.

looking good haflpintpixie! don’t worry, I use cheap acrylic felt from the dollar store… I dream of real wool felt, but that will have to wait. Happy crafting!!!
