Carnival of Breastfeeding: Gorgeous nursing bras – they do exist!

17 November, 2008 by halfpintpixie

Welcome to November’s Carnival of Breastfeeding, this month’s topic is “Product Reviews“. Thanks for stopping by, I hope you enjoy your visit!

Gorgeous nursing bras – they do exist!

I’m still wearing nursing bras, I know at over 2 years postpartum most mums are well out of them, but I’m still a little prone to blocked ducts so to be on the safe side I’m sticking with the underwire-free nursing bras.

I’ve never been a white cotton bra kind of girl and when I was pregnant and getting measured for maternity and nursing bras my heart sank at the poor selection available in my local store. When my supply eventually regulated and my bosoms made it back to a more stable size, I got busy on the internet seeking out some online alternatives, and thankfully I managed to find some.

Most recently, HOTMilk have been attracting my eye (and my credit card). They are a New Zealand company which specialises in sexy nursing lingerie (oooh!). So far I have bought three bras from their range and I love them all.

As a disclaimer here, I will admit that my bosoms are not ample, I am a modest 34B while breastfeeding, therefore I cannot offer much comments on how well these bras support one’s cleavage. They support my bosoms, but my bosoms pretty much support themselves!

And that’s another thing that I like about HOTMilk’s range, some of their bras are available in sizes starting at 30A. That is just amazing to find in a nursing bra range, most other ranges only go as low as a 34C, leaving us smaller women searching in vain. It makes me think that HOTMilk are aiming their range at longer term breastfeeders as you would be more likely to return to the smaller sizes as time passes, and the initial fullness wears off. So, two thumbs up for catering to us smaller ladies!

On a fitting note, HOTMilk’s cup sizes tend to be on the small side, so I go up a cup size but keep the same band size, so I get to be a 34C in them, hurrah!

So what HOTMilk bras have I tried?

By the way, those are not my bosoms in the photos, just in case anyone was getting jealous ;-)

SSSSinfully Sweet Seductress is a black lace bra with soft cotton teal coloured lining. The colour is fantastic and it is a very comfortable bra. Mine has been working hard for about 7 months now and has gotten a little out of shape but is still very beautiful and does its job well!

While I love this bra, I would have my doubts about its supportiveness in larger sizes.

I have recently treated myself to two new HOTMilk nursing bras which arrived in the post a few days ago:

Midnight Mystique is a lightly padded black lace and purple satin bra with diamante detail at the front. It is the first bra I have bought since before I was pregnant that is padded, albeit very lightly. It has a great shape. Because of the padding and my usual concern about blocked ducts this bra will be an occasional wear bra!

Silhouette Of A Secret is a very beautiful bra, it is black lace over pink cotton. A very comfortable fit, it is a lot pinker than it looks in this photo, which is marvellous! I think this one will get lots of wear. It is officially my new favourite and Littlepixie says it is “nice”, she calls it “Mama nice new bra” and has an delightful new habit of pulling my top down to look at it!

I tend to buy my bras online from Zodee, their base currency is the Aussie dollar which has a decent exchange rate with the Euro, Zodee also runs a customer club with discounts and special offers.

Figleaves also has a great range in nursing bras but they can work out more expensive for me due to the Sterling/Euro exchange rate. Remember if you’re buying from figleaves, a bit of googling first will usually unearth some good discount codes.

And if you go to HOTMilk’s site they list all their real world stockists too, so you might be lucky and have one near you, none in Ireland yet unsurprisingly.

If you are looking for some more gorgeous nursing bras, have a look at this post of mine from March, there are a couple of other beautiful nursing bras reviewed there and more recommendations in the comments. Happy shopping!

Those are so pretty! I am a 34 B as well (C on a good day, but I think once I quit breastfeeding they will deflate to a B). I’m not a black lace type of girl, but my husband would probably love them :-) Bravado has come out with some pretty nursing bras, but they are expensive and I’m happy with the essential tanks anyway.

Wow! These are amazing. I’m not sure I’d have the courage to buy w/out trying it on first (I know I could return it, but what a pain). Still, I’ve been wearing the same tired white cotton bra for nearly 2 years now. I’ve love a change, but it seems a bit late in the game. Maybe next babe ;-) .

Those really are pretty! After a baby you really need something fun and sexy to wear to perk yourself up and remind yourself that you are still a hot mama. I bet these do the trick nicely!

Those are really pretty! I was desperate for pretty bras after almost 2 years of wearing my very supportive but less than attractive Bravado nursing bra (mentioned in my post for the carnival). I’m on the larger size, especially while nursing, so it would have been interesting to see what kind of options I would have had for my 38G bust. Thanks for the post!

Thankyou! I’ve just checked out Zodee and there’s great stuff on there. 32Es aren’t a particularly easy size to come by in shops! HOTMilk is gorgeous. :)

Yes! I love HOTMilk, too! I bought 3 of their bras about 2 weeks ago, when I finally decided that I was sick and tired of wearing granny-style nursing bras. (I too, am prone to plugged ducts and don’t dare to wear “normal” bras until I am no longer making milk.) Also, as the owner of 34E bosoms, I can attest to HOTMilk bras’ suitability for those in need of more… er …support. :D

Yowza! These are gorgeous. I’m so glad they’re making pretty nursing bras now, even though they’re still not making them in my size (sigh). I’m lucky if I can find an underwire (softcup at 36I ain’t cutting it), much less something besides white and nude! I did finally find a plain black one, which perked me up a little! :) But here’s hoping the beauty continues to spread. A mama can dream.

As a bigger gal, I have a hard time with bras too and these might just work. I will be in Australia later this week and plan to hit up one of the stores listed!!! Thank you!!! The bras I have now work, but are so BORING!

these are really lovely.I have yet to treat myself with one.

These are a stunning range of nursing bra, very supportive now too with sizes that go from 30A as you mentioned right up to 42G. (The larger size bras have been designed to give great support in the fabrics, bands, shoulder elastic and hooks). Here at our Breastmates.co.nz store we have a sizing guide which tells you how to measure your size at home, and how to convert with the sizing codes in different countries. We can ship worldwide! Enjoy!
